A double shot of Katie
Touch of Irish regret elegantly aired in Missouri.
Plus: Ellen sees Katie as a laughingstock. No, really!
Irish folk singer Pat Kelleher does a fine job with "Katie," a song well known to the Irish -- and also to the fiddler, Katie Petersen.
In honor of an old friend of the Petersens visiting the Ozarks from Ireland, the family band thought it meet to make a video with him.
Ironically, Katie -- who is a wonderful singer and who has a special affection for Ireland -- is mute here, but Kelleher gets graceful vocal support from sisters Ellen Haygood, on banjo, and Julianne Petersen, on mandolin. Instrumental support comes from guitarist Matt Petersen, bassist Karen Petersen, and dobroist Emmett Franz.
"You all have heard us talk about Pat Kelleher, our dear friend from Ireland," they write. "Well, he visited us in Branson and we decided to record a video with him! We learned ‘Katie’ when Katie went to Oxford to study in 2015 and Pat knows the song well from singing it to his wife, Kathleen. Enjoy!"
The wistful song expresses the regret of an older fellow whose partner has fled following one too many words spoken in anger.
As a bonus, in the outro credit roll, Kelleher demonstrates remarkable proficiency on the banjo.
Another bonus: Scroll down to the v-log below to observe overconfident Katie suddenly trapped in a neck stock headlock used of yore to punish and humiliate petty criminals. She can blame her impish sister Julianne, v-log honcho, for airing this laughingstock occasion.
